A LOCAL charity has said a huge thank you to former Barnsley footballer Ian Banks and everyone who took part in a recent fundraising golf day.
The event, in aid of Barnsley Hospital Charity, raised £2,110 and brought together footballing legends, golf enthusiasts and supporters.
Those taking part included Barnsley legends Gerry Taggart, Danny Wilson and Stuart Barraclough and former players Mark Crossley, Dean Windass, Jon Parkin and David Speedie.
The golf day was inspired by Ian’s friend Mark Hine, the former Peterborough and Doncaster Rovers midfielder, who sadly lost his life to prostate cancer just two weeks after last year’s fundraiser.
A charity spokesperson said: “Mark had organised an annual golf fundraiser for prostate cancer, and Ian decided to continue that spirit by supporting Barnsley Hospital. This year’s event was held in Mark’s memory, making the day even more special.
“Ian has now helped raise thousands of pounds for the hospital through these events, and we’re incredibly grateful for his continued support.
“Thank you to Ian, all the footballing legends, everyone who played, donated and supported the event, and everyone who helped make it happen.
“£2,110 was raised in memory of Mark and to support our hospital.”
