AEW could be planning a massive championship match soon. AEW World Champion Will Ospreay may defend his title against Adam Copeland. A recent report suggests their rivalry could begin soon. Ospreay recently retained the AEW World Championship in Clockwork Carnage.
The eight-man match featured several top AEW stars including Adam Copeland. Copeland came close to winning the championship during the match. However, Ospreay pinned him during the final moments of the match to retain his title.
Following the match, a frustrated Copeland shoved Ospreay. The situation eventually settled, and both stars shook hands. That moment has now sparked speculation about their future.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed their confrontation. He believes AEW could be building toward a championship match. He said, “Yeah. So, you know, at the end of the pay per view, they did the thing where Osprey and Copeland shook hands. It was pretty clear that they’re going to do that match.”
Meltzer also suggested the match could headline Full Gear. “So it would not shock me if that was the full gear main event. Ospreay and Adam Copeland are going to be doing a championship match at some point.” [H/T: ewrestlingnews]
AEW Full Gear remains a possible destination, not confirmation. Fans will have to wait for further developments. Copeland recently revealed that 2027 will be his final year wrestling. He also wants to pursue the AEW World Championship.
That goal could make a potential match with Ospreay significant. For now, the reported championship clash remains speculation.
