The Celtic Signing Being Overshadowed by Camilo Durán

Tony Watt believes Mika Baur deserves more recognition for his Celtic contribution, with Camilo Durán’s goals and assists taking much of the attention.

The former Hoops striker has been impressed by the midfielder’s energy and believes he has helped Celtic adjust following Arne Engels’ departure.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Watt described Baur as a “buzzbomb”.

“Mika Baur, Duran’s probably took a spotlight off of him because he’s getting the goals and assists. That’s what he’s been doing in terms of numbers-wise.

“But Baur has come in and really helped the Celtic midfield. When they lost Engels, who off the ball was more important than on the ball for me. He got about, he plugged gaps, and he showed great legs in the middle of the park.”

Sunday’s demolition of Hearts offered a particularly clear example of his attacking quality.

Baur delivered the corners for Kieran Tierney and Benjamin Nygren to score inside the opening ten minutes, helping Celtic take control before Hearts could settle.

Those deliveries mattered. Celtic were clinical throughout the afternoon, but the early advantage gave them the platform to play with confidence.

Durán understandably attracts attention when he is scoring and creating goals. Baur’s contribution can be less obvious when it involves finding space or helping Celtic regain control in midfield.

That does not make it any less valuable.

The encouraging thing about Sunday was how well those individual contributions came together. Celtic moved the ball with purpose and their attacking players had options around them.

Baur played his part in that and maintaining that level would give the Hoops a stronger foundation for the tougher tests ahead.
