John Lundstram names the one thing Leicester City need to kickstart season

John Lundstram believes Leicester City need to gain confidence in their play

Leicester City midfielder John Lundstram believes victory over Doncaster Rovers could be the start of the Foxes pushing on this season. City are 17th in League One after eight games following last weekend's defeat to Peterborough United.

The Posh were 3-0 up at half-time after another calamitous performance at the King Power Stadium. It followed defeats to Burton Albion and Oxford United at home this season, with City's two wins both coming away from home.

This weekend, City welcome Doncaster to LE2 knowing they must start picking up wins if they are to climb the League One table. Grant McCann's men sit one place above Leicester on goal difference and have won their last three games in all competitions.

Lundstram, who was speaking to LeicestershireLive at a Leicester City in the Community event with Leicester-based charity Pedestrian at Rushey Mead Academy, has revealed the feeling inside the dressing room after the weekend's defeat.

"I thought we were close after the Stockport game, we won, we went to Barnsley, we played really, really well - we should have won that game by three or four goals," he said. "It was so frustrating on the day not to win, and I thought that was the momentum building.

"Obviously we had a good result against Fulham Under-21s, and I thought we were starting to get going. That's gave us a little knock back on the weekend, but I think you see some of the play, some of the goals we've scored have been amazing and that's how we want it to look, but it's just about trying to keep the consistency going.

"I think once we get a couple of wins under our belts, once that anxiety lifts, and the lads have got a bit of a confidence, because people outside would never be able to feel what confidence on the pitch feel likes, but when you're playing with confidence, you feel like you can conquer the world, and when you're not playing with confidence, a five-yard pass seems difficult.

"I think just building and building, and that gave us a little setback on the weekend, but I think if we can win Saturday and win well, then that start a foundation of trying to push on."

Speaking about the event, which was organised for young carers in Leicestershire who have adult responsibilities, Lundstram spoke of his pride in putting smiles on the faces of those in attendance. "It's touched me quote a lot, listening to the stories of some of the children, what they're going through and how strong they are," he said.

"I just couldn't comprehend going through something like that at such a young age, so to see them all here smiling today, you wouldn't even know because that's how strong they are, that they're going through stuff like that."

He added: "Hopefully they've enjoyed it as well because I enjoyed it. Sometimes you can do these community visits and it's not easy to engage, and some of the kids are nervous, but everyone in here has has been great. They've just hammered Soutts (Souttar) for missing a penalty [at the World Cup], they've been super fun."
