Gordon Strachan insists Martin O’Neill is the right man to manage Celtic following questions over his future.
O’Neill admitted he’d have to consider his future after Celtic’s 1-0 defeat to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
The extended international break followed, prompting many to wonder if the Hoops legend would decide to walk away before club football returned.

Another Europa League match awaits this Thursday, with Celta Vigo travelling to Glasgow’s east end.
Gordon Strachan has defended O’Neill’s post-Rangers comments, saying every manager questions his position after a defeat in a big match.
Speaking to BOYLE Sports, the former Celtic boss said:
“Every manager has a moment of doubt after a painful defeat where they question if they want to continue.
“But after stepping back and reflecting, Martin O’Neill realised how good the opportunity at Celtic is. You can tell when a manager owns their interviews, and it was good to see Celtic play so well.
“Martin is the right man for the job.”
O’Neill admitted that, if the international break didn’t arrive right after that loss to their rivals, then he’d probably never have said anything at all.
Sunday’s rout of Hearts showed a clinical performance that supporters hadn’t seen in quite some time. O’Neill started the front three that ended the match in Lisbon, and they certainly delivered.
Callum Osmand got two goals, Camilo Duran scored one and assisted two more, while Haissem Hassan hit the post and threatened throughout.
That result will only matter if the team carry that confidence into Thursday night and beyond. O’Neill remains in charge and will aim to replicate that sort of performance for weeks to come.
