Tom Brady's furious take down of NFL officials on FOX gets instant reply from Pat McAfee
Tom Brady was in disbelief after several calls in the Lions-Packers game on FOX

Tom Brady spent the final minutes of the Lions’ 20-17 win over the Packers on FOX sounding like a quarterback who had seen enough flags, and Pat McAfee noticed.

Brady first reacted in the fourth quarter, when Lions linebacker Derrick Barnes was called for unnecessary roughness on a hit on Green Bay running back MarShawn Lloyd just after a pass went through his hands.

The penalty gave the Packers an automatic first down on a drive that ended in a tying field goal. Later in the game, Amon-Ra St Brown accidentally kicked a referee, and several fans felt the game was "rigged."

“Oh come on, man,” Brady said as the penalty was announced. He explained why he thought it was wrong. “Love throws it over the middle. There are linebackers in the middle. He’s just turning his right shoulder away from it. That’s allowed 99 out of 100. It’s a bang-bang play. I know in super slow-mo, every little minute frame looks like a lot, but when you’re on the field, you’ve got to pursue that ball.”

He was even sharper on the call that set up the winning kick. With the game tied in the final minutes, Jared Goff completed an 18-yard pass to Sam LaPorta, and Packers defensive tackle Karl Brooks was flagged for roughing the passer after he hit Goff a split second after the throw. That moved Detroit to the Green Bay 40.

“No, my goodness, what is that? There’s no way,” Brady said. “Brooks on the tackle kind of makes a great play. It’s a bang-bang play. He rolls off his body. It’s a great throw by Goff. That’s definitely not roughing the passer.”

"You’re just ripping through the line of scrimmage to try to get the quarterback on the ground. Look, I love Goff standing there in the pocket, but you just can’t tack on 15 yards," he said.

FOX rules analyst Dean Blandino agreed. “It wasn’t late. His head is up. That’s teach tape tackling. That’s not roughing the passer,” Blandino said.

Play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt added that it was “certainly not a penalty, but the Lions will take it.”

Pat McAfee watched from afar and said Brady’s voice carries weight. “I really appreciate Tom Brady’s disdain for some of these Roughing The Passer calls,” McAfee wrote on X. “He’s an owner and one of the lead commentators. He’s got a lot of weight.”

Packers star Micah Parsons weighed in too. “Let’s just go to flag football if every time a QB gets touched it’s roughing the passer!” Parsons wrote.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur declined to dig into it after the game. “I don’t even want to comment on any of the penalties,” LaFleur said. “I thought there were some tough calls, but it is what it is.”

Green Bay has now been flagged for roughing the passer eight times this season, and no other team has more than four.
