Love's hot start among 3 things to hate in Cowboys-Packers matchup

The Dallas Cowboys have a big game with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football in Week 6, here are three reasons to hate the matchup.

The Dallas Cowboys head to famed Lambeau Field on Sunday night to play the Green Bay Packers in Week 6. It’s a matchup that lost some of its luster with former Cowboy Micah Parsons not playing, but there’s plenty at stake for both teams.

A win for the Cowboys evens their record and settles down the firestorm that arrived after losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A loss, and the calls for major changes will continue to get louder. It’s a tough game to need a victory, but Brian Schottenheimer’s group desperately needs to win another tough game on the road.

It won’t be easy; here are three things to hate about the Week 6 matchup with the Packers.

Jordan Love

The Cowboys’ defense is bad, and here comes the Packers’ offense led by Love and a passing game that’s coming into the game hot. Love threw for 367 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Chicago Bears, which marked the second consecutive week the seven-year veteran also had a completion percentage over 73%.

This isn’t just a two-week thing for Love, he has at least two touchdown passes in every game this season and has 10 passing scores on the year, good for fifth in the NFL. Love is also third in the league in passing yards through five games, with three contests of over 300 yards passing.

Love plays particularly well at home, where he’s thrown for 41 touchdowns against 15 interceptions and averages 306 passing yards per game in his career.

Dynamic duo at WR

Love doesn’t star for Green Bay’s passing attack all alone, he’s got some elite talent helping him at wide receiver. Christian Watson and Matthew Golden are one of the league’s top WR tandems, and they’re coming off an incredible game in Week 5.

The duo caught 12 passes, six each, for a combined 266 yards and three scores, with both WRs going over the 100-yard mark. Watson had two touchdowns, including an improbable 53-yard score in the third quarter.

Both WRs are inside the top 10 in the NFL in receiving yards, Watson at fifth overall and Golden at ninth, making them the current top WR tandem. Watson is also second in the league in touchdown catches with six.

It’ll be a tough challenge for a Cowboys defense that has given up 10 passing scores and ranks 21 st in the league in pass defense, despite playing 1.5 games against backup QBs.

Defense good in two key areas

The Packers have a middle of the road defense that will be down at least three key players after losing Edgerrin Cooper and Javon Hargrave to torn Achilles injuries in Weeks 4 and 5 respectively.

Despite injury concerns, the Packers still get after the quarterback and cause turnovers at a high rate. Jonathan Gannon’s defense has 14 sacks and forced nine turnovers through five weeks. The sacks are good for seventh best, and the turnovers are the fourth most in the league. The Packers’ seven interceptions are tied for the most in the NFL so far this year.

Dak Prescott is one of the best QBs in the league at avoiding throwing interceptions, but the ball has gone off too many receivers’ hands for turnovers lately. If that happens again, the Packers will take advantage and make life difficult for the Cowboys.

If the Cowboys can avoid giving the ball away, they will give themselves a better chance at winning on the road in Week 6.
