Jon Jones thinks ‘DC’ would have been on track for GOAT status if he fought in a different era.

The former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champions had one of the most heated rivalries in mixed martial arts history.

Jones beat Daniel Cormier by decision at UFC 182 in 2015, before knocking him out in a rematch that got overturned to a no contest. The feud appeared to be a bridge too broken to ever be fixed, especially when Jones labeled Cormier an “enemy for life.”

In 2026, though, the leading GOAT contender has changed his stance. Not only is he giving ‘DC’ plenty of credit for his accomplishments, he is also pitching a way for them to bury the hatchet.

Jon Jones claims Daniel Cormier could have been the GOAT if he came from a different UFC era

Jones and Cormier coached against each other on ALT Reality earlier this year, and their interactions on the show suggested the feud isn’t at the level it once was.

That was once again clear during Jones’ recent appearance on the Prince St. Pizza YouTube channel.

During the interview, ‘Bones’ spoke about his rivalry with ‘DC’ and suggested that his former arch-enemy might have been a contender for GOAT status if they hadn’t fought in the same time period.

“Daniel Cormier, I feel as if — if we weren’t part of the same era, I think he would have been considered one of the greatest fighters, if not the greatest fighter of all time,” Jones said.

The Rochester native went on to make more surprising remarks, as he offered to “bury the hatchet” with Cormier by sharing a pizza at the interview location.

“My goal is to make bygones be bygones, invite him out for a pizza, maybe we can do a meet-and-greet for the fans here,” Jones said.

“We’re older. We all like food. We all like community, family, and I think that’s the way Prince Street can bring us together.

“So hopefully, if you’re watching, Daniel Cormier, I’ll invite you out here to Baton Rouge. I’ll fly you out. We can have pizza. We can talk. You can show me things about Louisiana. And we can bury the hatchet,” he added.

The most memorable moment in the pair’s feud came when Jones and Cormier brawled at a press conference in 2014.

By the sounds of it, there won’t be a repeat of that at the pizza restaurant if ‘DC’ takes his longtime rival up on his offer to let bygones be bygones.
