Gloucester Rugby have seen off considerable competition from the likes of Leicester Tigers, Saracens and Harlequins to agree a contract extension with England international Seb Atkinson in a massive boost for the table-topping club.

Atkinson, still just 24, joined the Cherry and Whites from Worcester Warriors in 2022 and quickly established himself as a fan favourite thanks to his physicality on both sides of the ball, relentless work rate and consistency of performance, becoming vice captain of the club in the last couple of years.

His impact in Cherry & White has been recognised with a number of accolades, including being named Stowford Press Supporters' Player of the Year in both 2023/24 and 2025/26.

Most notably, he earned his first senior England cap against Argentina in 2025 and has since established himself as a regular in Steve Borthwick's setup to be awarded an Enhanced Elite Player Squad contract with the national side. He was recently named in the squad for the upcoming Nations Championship campaign.

Atkinson’s extension will see him remain with the Kingsholm until at least 2029.

Gloucester head coach George Skivington, said: "This is a really significant re-signing for us. Seb had plenty of options on the table, so his commitment to the club is a real indication of where Gloucester Rugby is right now.

"Seb has been exceptional for us since the day he arrived. He came with great physical qualities and an outstanding level of professionalism in how he approaches his own development and the team's success.

"He's the ultimate professional and a fantastic role model for any young rugby player in the way he carries himself on matchdays, in training and away from the field.

"We're delighted to get Seb's deal over the line and look forward to him remaining a key part of what we're building at Gloucester Rugby for many years to come.”

Atkinson added: "I'm really grateful to the Club for everything they've given me since arriving at Kingsholm. There's no doubt the faith the coaches have shown in me, and the time they've invested in my development, has played a huge role in shaping the player and person I am today.

"Playing at Kingsholm is a privilege, and I've been overwhelmed by how the Gloucester supporters have welcomed me and made me feel one of their own.

"I'm in a place where I feel valued by the coaches, the fans and my teammates. I'm enjoying my rugby and feel this is the perfect environment for me to continue developing and improving my game.

"Most importantly, I'm committed to helping bring success to this Club. When I took all of those things into consideration, signing a new deal was the only decision.”
