Notre Dame slipped one spot in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll, despite not playing this weekend.
The Fighting Irish fell to No. 5. This could be a result of losing to BYU, which fell six spots to No. 8, the previous week. Perhaps the voters are being a little harder on Notre Dame for losing to BYU, since the Cougars followed that prime-time win by losing at UCF.
Or perhaps not -- it could be as simple as Indiana leap-frogging the Irish after the Hoosiers held on in overtime against Michigan in Ann Arbor. Or maybe it's both.
Oddly, Notre Dame rose in the coaches' poll.
Texas moved up eight spots to No. 11 after beating Ole Miss, while Ole Miss dropped five spots to No. 12. Other teams that dropped five spots included Tennessee and Texas Tech, to Nos. 16 and 13, respectively. Tennessee was upset by South Carolina and Texas Tech was upset by Cincinnati.
Only three teams in the AP Top 25 remain undefeated -- they are Miami (FL), Utah and UCLA.
The top five is Miami (FL), Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana and Notre Dame. The rest of the top then are Utah, UCLA, BYU, Kentucky and Alabama.
Two consecutive weekends of craziness in college football have jumbled the poll. The stretch run towards the playoff will be nothing if not interesting.
