‘At Least on the Radar’ — NFL Insider Floats $88M QB as Option for Ravens After Injuries to Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley

The Baltimore Ravens are in deep trouble after they lost both of their top two quarterbacks in the same game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Two-time MVP Lamar Jackson suffered a thumb injury that will require surgery, while backup Tyler Huntley went down with a turf toe injury in the second quarter that will also end his season.

A team sitting at 4-4 with nine games left and a playoff spot still within reach now faces the next games with an undrafted rookie behind center and a trade deadline arriving next Tuesday. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported this week that the Baltimore Ravens could be looking at the Indianapolis Colts for a potential solution.

The game against Buffalo produced the worst possible outcome for Baltimore at the quarterback position. Jackson, who had already missed three games earlier this season with an ankle injury, threw one pass before the thumb injury ended his day. He will undergo surgery and miss at least four games on injured reserve, with his longer-term timetable still uncertain.

Huntley stepped in and lasted into the second quarter before the turf toe took him out as well. That left the Ravens with undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, a UConn product making his NFL debut against Buffalo. He completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards and an interception.

Following the injuries to Jackson and Huntley, Baltimore added Kedon Slovis to the 53-man roster and re-signed Austin Reed to the practice squad.

With the trade deadline arriving next Tuesday and the Ravens needing to find a quarterback before it passes, Fowler reported this week that one name that has already come up in league conversations is Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones.

“Some conversations I had early this week made me think the Colts’ Daniel Jones is at least on the radar,” Fowler wrote. “Baltimore could essentially sign him without spending a lot because of his struggles. Jones’ $5.5 million base salary is tradable, and his 2027 guarantees don’t trigger until the offseason. He’s roughly 11 months post-Achilles tear, so perhaps his play improves.”

Jones signed a two-year, $88 million extension with Indianapolis in March 2026, with $60 million in guarantees. The structure Fowler pointed to is what makes a trade realistic without costing Baltimore significant capital.

His $5.5 million base salary is tradable, and the larger financial obligations tied to his 2027 year do not kick in until after the current season ends.

Jones’ production this year has been below par regardless of that contract. He has thrown nine interceptions and scored just five touchdowns through eight games, with Indianapolis working through a stretch widely seen as a rebuild while the quarterback continues adjusting to a new season, now 11 months removed from his Achilles tear.

PFN’s QB Impact Metric has Jones ranked 32nd through eight games of the 2026 season with a grade of 64.8 and 956th all-time. He has so far thrown for 1,542 yards while completing just 60.4% of his passes for the Colts this season.

Fagnano will to start for Baltimore on Thursday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9.
