Arsenal 1-0 Hull City: Odegaard gives champions narrow win -- as it happened

Arsenal edged past Hull City in a scrappy game of few chances with Martin Odegaard scoring the lone goal of the match.

The Arsenal skipper was first to a rebound after Noni Madueke's shot spilled into the six-yard box in the 72nd minute. Madueke, the best player on the pitch, had a chance to double the lead a few minutes later but he failed in his attempt to round Hull keeper Konstantinos Tzolakis when played through one-on-one by a clever backheel from substitute Mikel Merino.

Merino, and fellow double sub Eberechi Eze (both came on in the 69th minute), were important for Arsenal as they finally broke down the tough Hull defence and then maintained control over the remainder of the match.

The result sees Arsenal go six points clear at the top of the Premier League, with Manchester City set to play soon after.
