Texas A&M's offense has continued to struggle in SEC play, and while starting quarterback Marcel Reed played better during the first half of Saturday's 31-20 road loss to Alabama, the Aggies couldn't hold a 20-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter after a miscommunication led to Reed fumbling a snap on fourth and short, leading to two Alabama touchdowns.
Freshman running back KJ Edwards, one of the team's few bright spots, led the Aggies in rushing but got only three carries in the final three quarters after a leg contusion kept him sidelined. In the trenches, the offensive line held up for most of the game, allowing five pressures and just one sack.
LSU transfer left tackle Tyree Adams played well, earning the second-highest PFF pass-protection grade, behind right guard Wilkin Formby, while sophomore right tackle Lamont Rogers, who graded out poorly against Alabama, still had his moments.
Rogers allowed three pressures, but the former five-star prospect showed promise as a run blocker, especially on one of KJ Edwards' best runs of the day, plowing through linebacker Luke Metz to open the biggest running hole I could have run through.
Third-year OL coach Adam Cushing aims to keep developing his younger players, including freshman guard Sam Rosebourgh, who also impressed in his 13 snaps, earning an elite 82.9 pass protection grade.
