Formula One history was made at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Sunday's race saw Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli become the youngest F1 world champion ever at just 20 years and 68 days old.

The Italian superstar finished third, behind Lewis Hamilton and race winner Max Verstappen, but the podium place was enough to clinch his maiden title and the Silver Arrows' 10th Drivers' Championship.

While Antonelli's triumph was the talk of the town, underlying storylines across the paddock garnered significant traction. Hamilton's chaotic battle with Charles Leclerc sparked a post-race row, while one F1 star's behaviour resulted in his team being punished.

Lewis Hamilton drama

The seven-time world champion and his Ferrari team-mate were slammed by team principal Fred Vasseur for showing a "lack of respect" to the Italian team after Sunday's race. Hamilton, who started on pole, had the lead taken away by his Monegasque colleague as they tussled through the first few corners.

Both Leclerc and Hamilton ran off the track during the battle, which saw the 41-year-old then lose second place to Verstappen before eventually earning a runner-up finish behind the Dutchman, while the 29-year-old finished fourth.

Leclerc was handed a five-second penalty for gaining a lasting advantage and was criticised both during and after the race by Hamilton, who claimed his antics were due to "a mentality thing" and insisted Ferrari had "big, big problems." However, both drivers faced Vassuer's ire as the Frenchman fumed after the race.

He told Canal+: "I'm struggling to swallow it because, honestly, I think it's a lack of respect, a lack of respect for the brand, a lack of respect for all the people working here and for the efforts we're putting in. We've taken a real step forward in terms of performance, and I think throwing away a win like that is tough."

Asked if he was referring to Leclerc, Vasseur continued: "No, no, I didn't target anyone; I want to talk with them. Lewis was running very wide too, but look, I think we also need to keep in mind that we represent a brand, we represent sponsors, we've got 2,000 people working behind us who aren't just racing for the sake of racing; they're racing for the whole team."

Mercedes slapped with fine

It was a day of celebration for Mercedes after Antonelli's world championship victory. However, the Italian's team-mate, George Russell, was left immensely disappointed after finishing sixth. The 28-year-old was given a 10-second penalty by the stewards after he was adjudged to have caused a collision with Red Bull star Isack Hadjar.

The distraught Brit made sure to embrace the 20-year-old on his historic achievement before he was allowed to skip his obligatory media duties. His absence was approved by the Silver Arrows, who were slapped with a €5,000 (£4,173) fine by the FIA.

Team principal Toto Wolff revealed the reason behind Russell's post-race exit after Mercedes' initial announcement of the situation omitted an explanation. The Austrian said: "I saw George after the race on the FIA scales, and obviously he's distraught about the situation.

"It was a great show of sportsmanship to go and see Kimi. I have known George for such a long time. So, I saw him and thought, for a racing driver, this is a catastrophic moment. And maybe today the race was a little bit a picture of his season. This was a race for him to win. We had the pace in the car. And we let him down on the first straight.

"The energy delivery is not what we thought it should be. And so I'm very much with him at the moment. I've been in situations where it's very, very difficult to cope. So, him not doing the media work, or leaving the track, is absolutely understandable. Him staying would have actually surprised me."
