AEW star MJF is preparing to step into an unfamiliar role at an upcoming independent wrestling event, trading his usual position in the ring for a job that requires him to keep others in line.

The announcement comes as Create-A-Pro Wrestling prepares for its annual BaseBrawl event on October 24 in Long Island, New York.

The promotion has added the former Create-A-Pro student to the show, where he’ll oversee a 10-man tag team match featuring a WWE Hall of Famer and one of the independent scene’s well-known managers.

Create-A-Pro Wrestling announced that MJF will serve as the special guest referee when Team Road Dogg faces Team Sidney Bakabella at Saturday’s event. Road Dogg’s lineup includes Create-A-Pro co-owner Brian Myers, Anthony Greene, Aaron Rourke, Bobby Orlando, and Nick Robles.

Bakabella’s team will feature Leo Sparrow, Dante Drago, Bryce Donovan, Vinny Scalice, and TJ Crawford. With 10 competitors involved, MJF will have plenty to manage if the match gets out of hand — although keeping the peace may prove just as difficult as winning a bout himself.

MJF has a history with Create-A-Pro, which served as his training ground before he established himself in professional wrestling. He originally trained under the promotion’s founders, Brian Myers and Pat Buck, and made his professional in-ring debut there in 2015.

His appearance also follows the withdrawal of Billy Gunn, who had to cancel his scheduled bookings because of contractual obligations. Create-A-Pro announced MJF as a replacement attraction for the meet-and-greet portion of the event, while also adding AEW announcer Alicia Atout for fans.

The promotion confirmed that attendees must purchase an event ticket to take part in the meet-and-greet sessions. The show will take place at Brookside Educational Center and serve as a fundraiser for Merrick Bellmore Little League.

For MJF, the event offers a return to the promotion where his wrestling journey began, but this time he’ll be responsible for enforcing the rules rather than bending them. Whether the referee stripes bring out his fair side remains to be seen when BaseBrawl gets underway on Saturday.
