Former Golden State Warriors center and three-time NBA champion JaVale McGee was waived earlier this week, being cut loose by the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association after eight games with the team. At 38 years old, McGee had a diminished role with the team, averaging 5.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 11 minutes per game.
According to basketball reporter Zhang Duo, the Sharks waived McGee to make room for his former teammate, two-time champion Chris Boucher. Boucher won a title with the Toronto Raptors and also with the Warriors, playing one game with Golden State during his rookie season (2017-18). Boucher, who is much younger (33 years old), appeared in the NBA last season, playing nine games for the Boston Celtics.
In Shanghai, Boucher will join another former Warriors player, D'Angelo Russell, who signed in China after being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies. In six games with Shanghai, Russell is averaging 18 points, 5.7 assists, 4.8 rebounds and one steal.
