William Osula insists that there is plenty of life at Newcastle United after the exits of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali last summer.

The Magpies picked up £244million for the trio as Bruno and Tonali headed for the bright lights of London and Gordon quit for a dream move to Barcelona. Even Matthias Jaissle has spoken about a "vacuum" that was left behind in the dressing room, but for Osula, he knows their exit has opened up opportunities that weren't there before, and he is convinced he can fill the shoes of frontman Gordon.

Osula grabbed his first of the season in the 2-0 win at Crystal Palace and will hope to add to the five goals from the final seven matches that came his way in the Premier League last season. Back then, Osula was deemed the man to step in for Gordon after the Scouser had downed tools to preserve himself for the move to the Nou Camp.

When asked if he now had the chance to fill the void left by others at Newcastle, Osula said: "Yes, absolutely. It's really nice to have the opportunity now to play and be able to show what I can do on the field over a period of time.

"So it's really nice, and I'm really happy with that. Can we surprise a few people? Yes, anyone can do that.

"We just have to keep working hard and keeping our heads down, take it game by game, and hopefully something like that can happen."

Having climbed up to the European places in the Premier League thanks to goals from Osula and Harvey Barnes, another to benefit from Gordon's exit, Newcastle's season now hinges on a double header against Everton in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

A place in the quarter-finals is up for grabs on Thursday before the chance to climb even further up the table to the dizzy heights of the top six if they see off the Toffees next week at St James' Park.

An excited Osula said: "Every game is important. Every game you need to go into with the winning mentality, wanting to win.

"So that's what we need to do, like we did at Palace, and focus on the next game."

Osula was part of the Eddie Howe squad that helped win the Carabao Cup in 2025 and savoured the Wembley celebrations despite not getting on the field. But now he is keen to experience it all again, only this time with a starring role on the big stage.

The Denmark international said: "Obviously, everyone wants to play in finals of big tournaments and competitions. It would be lovely to do that as well in the future. So absolutely, that's something I want to do."

"I'm just very happy to be back. Thank God I'm back from injury now. It's been a tough period, but I'm happy to be back with the team, and being able to help the team do well and help us get a really important with the win."
