Is Tony Pollard the most realistic running back trade option for the Broncos?

With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, teams have until 2:00 p.m. Mountain Time on Tuesday to make a deal. Will the Denver Broncos be among them?

As one of the top contenders to reach the Super Bowl this year, the Broncos should be expected to be a potential buyer, looking to grab a player to help put them over the top. Many fans and analysts see that as the team making a move for a running back, and the big-splash addition people are waiting for is the team trading for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor.

There have been plenty of rumors connecting the Broncos to Taylor, but there might be a more realistic option.

Broncos may opt for more realistic option than Jonathan Taylor

While adding Taylor would be a huge move for the Broncos, as he has been one of the league's best running backs for several years, it won't be an easy acquisition. In addition to what is reported to be a high asking price from the Colts, the Broncos would have to find a way to fit Taylor's contract into their salary cap, which could lead to repercussions next season, including having to let key free agents walk.

But maybe there is a more sensible option out there?

Derrick Henry's name has been mentioned, but the Tennessee Titans, sitting at 1-7, could be looking to sell pieces and Tony Pollard makes a lot of sense for the Broncos.

As stated, Pollard is playing on an expiring contract, meaning he could serve as a rental for the Broncos in their chase for the Lombardi Trophy, or he could be re-signed to a new deal next year. The team would have much more flexibility with his contract and he would cost far less to obtain than Taylor (and likely less than Breece Hall).

Pollard has also played well this season, rushing for 595 yards (9th in the NFL) and six touchdowns. Still just 29 years old, Pollard could bring the Broncos at least a couple of seasons of productivity, and that could lead to some pressure being taken off of rookie running back Jonah Coleman.

If the Broncos are looking to trade for a running back before the deadline, this is the move to make.
