Jasper Colman, from Carno, has earned a place on the programme which marks the start of the sport’s Olympic pathway.
Jasper joined Hafren Foresters Archery Club at the Seasons Cafe field in Caersws when he was eight, having always wanted to try his hand with a bow and arrow.
Since then, the young recurve archer has developed into a successful competitor and represented both his county and Wales.
Over the past two years, Jasper has set nearly 20 Welsh national records and three national GB records at competitions around the UK.
His commitment sees him travel to Archery GB’s training centre at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Telford every week, where he trains alongside and learns from experienced GB archers.
Jasper also continues to shoot several days a week with Hafren Foresters, where he is following a well-established pathway.
Fellow club member Fflur Thomas was selected for the National Age Group programme last year, while Meg Costall has recently turned professional as a full-time Archery GB member on the World Class programme.
Current under-18 world champion Alex Silitoe-Price also began his archery journey with Hafren Foresters.
The club caters for archers of different ages and abilities, including visually impaired participants.
The club said: “Archery is a unique sport where families can participate together and even young children can be supported to achieve big things.
“We are extremely proud of our junior members and cannot wait to see how far Fflur and Jasper go in the world of archery.”
