It should be a good game in East Rutherford New Jersey today. While there are plenty of causes for concern for the Raiders against the Jets, the other sides has plenty as well. Or to flip that around...
The Jets just handed the Dolphins their first win of the season. And it was the Raiders who handed the Dolphins their first loss of the season. So, in terms of a common opponent, that’s a big one. The Raiders held the Dolphins to 13 points. In fact, the Dolphins didn’t put up more than 13 points in and of their first four games. And last week they went and put up a season best 28 points on the Jets.
Star WR Garrett Wilson is not happy with the way things are going and there are rumblings head coach Aaron Glenn’s seat is getting very hot. As for Wilson, the 2022 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year is getting increasingly frustrated with the Jets’ losing ways. He got noticeably heated on the sideline during the team’s loss to the Dolphins after the team failed to score a touchdown and settled for a field goal after being in first and goal from the one. The Jets are clearly teetering on a full meltdown mode and that only works in the Raiders favor.
The one area of the Jets that is among the league’s best is their pass defense. But a big reason why is the pass rush of David Bailey. The rookie second overall pick – that’s right, the guy taken right after the Raiders took Fernando Mendoza with the top pick – leads the team in several crucial categories including sacks (5.5), QB hits (nine), tackles for loss (seven), and forced fumbles (three). He is Doubtful for the game and if he can’t play, that will hurt the Jets’ pass defense by giving Kirk Cousins that much more time to find an open receiver.
