Eugenio Chaccara cleared his way to the top of the leaderboard at the DP World Tour India Championship after acting out toward his playing partner during the final round.

Following his victory in India, the 26-year-old credited the victory to his grandfather, and the former LIV Golfer and Ryder Cup hopeful climbed to the summit of the Race to Dubai standings. In doing so, he overtook American Patrick Reed and dealt a setback to Rory McIlroy's bid to match Colin Montgomerie's record of eight European titles.

Before making the turn in India during the final round, Chacarra showed off his intense golf personality to his playing partner, Angel Hidalgo. Taking on the ninth hole in New Delhi, Chacarra made his life difficult by leaving himself about 60 yards onto the green for his third shot.

To make matters worse, he was chipping from the rough. But his playing partner, Hidalgo, found simplicity on the hole, hitting his approach to four feet, and then he walked up to mark his ball for Chacarra.

The former LIV Golf star clearly didn’t need Hidalgo to mark the ball, as he showed annoyance, and Sky Sports’ Wayne Riley called him out.

“This is hard, very hard, and he’s played an absolute shot of a genius,” he said.

“What happened was Hidalgo was like, ‘I’m going up there,’ and Chacarra looked at him and put his arms in the air and said, ‘What are you doing?’ ‘Well, I’m going to mark my ball.’

Hidalgo was well within his rights to say, ‘I want to mark my ball for you. I don’t want you to collide with my ball if you get it closer.’ Chacarra is out of order there,” finished Riley.

This drive and intense emotion from Chacarra are understandable, however. After taking the LIV Golf bait and letting his contract run out, he made it clear he wanted to secure a spot on the PGA Tour.

His strong performances, including a third-place finish at the French Open and a runner-up finish at the Spanish Open, reflected his ambition.

“I see what it’s like to win on the PGA Tour and how your life changes,” Chacarra told Flushing It after he left LIV.

“How you get major access and ranking points. On LIV, nothing changes; there is only money. It doesn’t matter if you finish 30th or first, only money.

"I’m not a guy who wants more money. What will change my life is playing in Hawaii and qualifying for the majors, qualifying for the Masters, and the Ryder Cup.”
