Substitute Jack Scott was the Portadown hero as he popped up three minutes into additional time to give David Jeffrey's side a precious 2-1 win over Cliftonville at Solitude.
The full-back had only been on the pitch for seven minutes when he provided the telling moment to earn the Ports their second win of the season.
It was a tough one for the Reds to take, as they dominated large chunks of the game but only had Brian Healy's 54th minute equaliser to show for their efforts.
Jim Magilton's side wasted several opportunities to edge in front after cancelling out Ben Kennedy's first half opener for the visitors, as they fell to a sixth league defeat in a row.
It was a cagey start with both sides finding it tough to carve out any real opportunities in the opening quarter of an hour.
Kennedy fired straight at PJ Morrison from a set-piece while Rory Hale and Ben Quinn were just off target with free-kicks for the Reds.
Liam McStravick should have fired the hosts in front before the 20- minute mark as he latched onto a loose ball after Hale's initial effort was blocked, but the young forward blazed over the Portadown bar.
McStravick went close again on 20 minutes as he found space on the edge of the box, but his low shot was deflected away for a corner.
The visitors broke the deadlock against the run of play on the half hour as Kennedy reacted quickest to fire home from close range after Michael Hewitt's shot had come back off the inside of the post.
The hosts were denied an equaliser four minutes before the break as Altintop got his head to Hale's goal-bound shot, flicking it away for a corner much to the disbelief of the Cliftonville captain.
The Reds went close again in the 43rd minute as Quinn had an effort pushed away by McCarey.
The pressure from the home side continued after the break with Shaun Leppard's flick from a Quinn cross almost catching out McCarey on 52 minutes.
Just two minutes later Cliftonville did draw themselves level as Healy lashed home from close range after Quinn's blocked shot fell nicely for the striker.
Pressure continued to build from the hosts as Hale forced McCarey into a low save at the near post midway through the second half before Samuels planted a header over the bar from another Quinn cross.
As Cliftonville continued to press forward they were leaving gaps at the back with Teelan almost racing clear but for a great covering tackle from Alex Bannon.
Joe Gormley and Luke Conlan were readied from the bench with the full-back almost grabbing the winner minutes after coming on but his first-time effort from Joe Sheridan's cross flew over the bar.
Cliftonville had a big shout for a penalty in the dying minutes as Conlan looked to be pulled down by Gary Thompson in front of goal but nothing was given.
As we edged towards full-time Morrison was off his line quickly to deny Hewitt, but there was to be late drama as the Ports bagged themselves a winner.
It was Scott, who only entered the pitch in the 86th minute, kept his cool to earn his side the victory.
