Many Arsenal players caught the eye against LOSC Lille.
The Gunners began their home campaign in this season’s Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night. Goals from Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka sealed the game in the second half.
Unsurprisingly, all three goalscorers have been receiving immense praise since last night. Even Martin Odegaard, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ezri Konsa and Declan Rice are being hailed.
However, one player nobody is talking about is Bruno Guimaraes, but the stats show he was absolutely incredible for the Gunners last night.
FULL TIME
Guimaraes started a home Arsenal game for the first time against Lille on Tuesday night.
The Brazilian had already shown his class for the Gunners as a substitute, by scoring the winner against Sunderland and most recently Leeds off the bench.
Guimaraes, hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by Mikel Arteta, could’ve scored a goal or two against Lille in the Champions League last night as well, but he squandered a couple of opportunities.
However, besides that, we thought the former Newcastle United man had an incredible game, and the stats prove it.
| Bruno Guimaraes vs Lille | Total | Match Ranking |
| Touches | 85 | Most |
| Final Third Passes | 37 | Most |
| Duels Won | 9 | Most |
| Tackles | 7 | Most |
| Possessions Won | 7 | Most (joint) |
| Interceptions | 3 | Most |
As you can see in the table above, Guimaraes registered the most touches, final third passes, duels won, tackles and interceptions, while he also won back possession the joint most times. (Squawka)
Those are some incredible numbers, and the fact that he topped those metrics when compared to every other player on the pitch shows just how good a performance it was.
Jurrien Timber was officially named the Player of the Match, and you could argue that he deserves that because he scored the all-important opener. It was a fantastic goal too.
However, if we’re talking about all-round performance, we think Guimaraes was the real Man of the Match, without taking anything away from Timber’s display.
