Frank Reich needs to author another comeback to fix this Jets offensive mess
New York Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich speaks at a press conference.
New York Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich talks to the media before practice in Florham Park, N.J., Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026.Jets offensive coordinator Frank Reich talks to the media before practice.

Geno Smith was 2 years old when Frank Reich authored his greatest moment as a player. On Jan. 3, 1993, Reich quarterbacked the Bills to a 41-38 overtime win over the Oilers after trailing 35-3 in the third quarter of an AFC wild-card game.

The 2026 Jets are not quite in that big of a hole yet, but it feels like it is time to see if Reich, the master of the comeback, has another one in his bag.

The Jets offense is not good, any way you slice it. They are 27th in points per game, 25th in yards per game, 25th in third-down percentage, 28th in sacks per pass attempt and dead last in red zone percentage. The offense has scored four touchdowns in the past three games and they play terrible situational football whether that is third down, short yardage, two-minute or in the red zone.

Is this all on Reich? No. There are plays when you can clearly see Smith not finding open receivers or a lineman missing a block or a player committing a boneheaded penalty.
