Ashton Jeanty has been left with egg on his face after his words to the New York Jets this week, while Rex Ryan brutally ripped into the Las Vegas Raiders running back.

The Heisman Trophy finalist and first-round pick appears to have been benched for the Raiders, with his struggles continuing into his second year, after having just one carry in the game. Earlier in the week, Jeanty said he expected the offense to run all over the Jets' defense, then added that some 'players don't want to tackle'.

Ryan had taken issue with Jeanty's words, coming after him on ESPN's NFL Live on Sunday while branding the Raiders' No. 1 running back as 'the worst draft pick in 20 years'

Speaking on the show after showing Jeanty's quotes, Ryan said, "How about Mr. Tiptoe through the tulips? Avoiding contact. This guy's soft as Charmin. Look at him.

"Old hired killer right there. Look, I'm gonna tell you something. I'm gonna talk to this kid before the game. I'm going right up to him. You know me. I tell the truth. I'm going right up to him and saying, 'Listen, young man, I heard what you said, and I want you to know something. All right? We are not gonna try to take you out of the game.'

"I want him to know we are not gonna try to take him out of the game.

"Why? Because you are horrible. You're about the worst draft pick of the last 20 years, I think, as a running back. You stink.

"You're averaging 3.1 yards per carry and guess what? Today you get your ass kicked. And you know who else does? Your teammates."

Unfortunately for Jeanty, it appears the Raiders themselves took Jeanty after the game, with rookie backup Mike Washington Jr. seeing more snaps and having more carries.

Jeanty did manage a 45-yard catch from Kirk Cousins before Washington Jr. was given the touches on the goal line as the lead running back.

Jeanty is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry so far this season, with one touchdown, while struggling in several weeks.

The Raiders won their first three games but may now drop to five straight losses should they nose to the Jets, while currently being one score up heading into the final 10 minutes of the game.
