‘I'm SORRY… Forgive Me’ — Hall-of-Famer Kurt Warner Apologizes for Major Mistake on Steelers-Saints Broadcast

Kurt Warner had plenty of praise for Pittsburgh’s running back during Sunday’s game in Paris. Getting that praise delivered to the correct Warren proved more difficult.

The Hall of Fame quarterback mixed up Jaylen Warren with Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ matchup against the New Orleans Saints. When the mistake followed him online, Warner offered an explanation and asked for a little forgiveness.

Kurt Warner Explains His Jaylen Warren Mix-Up

Warner worked NFL Network’s broadcast from Stade de France alongside play-by-play announcer Dave Pasch and fellow analyst Jason Kelce. The Oct. 25 matchup marked the NFL’s first regular-season game in France.

During the game, however, Warner brought an Indianapolis player’s name into his analysis of Pittsburgh’s backfield. He later attributed the slip to having covered Tyler Warren recently and mentioning him during Sunday’s broadcast.

“Haha, sorry, 1 play… had Tyler Warren 2 weeks ago and mentioned him in game, it carried over!”Warner wrote.

He finished with an emphatic request.

“I’m SORRY… forgive me!”

Warner expanded on the mistake in another post, acknowledging how frustrating those moments can be from inside the booth.

“Yes, I called JAYLEN Warren ‘Tyler’ today after calling Colts game & referencing him in today’s game… My bad, so sorry… it’s stinks as an announcer when you do that & unfortunately it won’t be my last time bc sometimes u just react & misspeak!”Warner wrote.

“I own it… and JAYLEN was awesome today, so hopefully I gave him enough LOVE at other times!!”

His reference to “1 play” in the initial apology offered his own account of how extensive the mistake had been. Awful Announcing reported that Warner used the wrong name three times before his colleagues corrected him.

The mix-up was especially noticeable because Warner was complimenting the running back’s ability to produce after a reception. The analysis concerned Jaylen’s work, but Tyler kept getting the credit.

“Not when you’ve got Tyler Warren on the field,” Warner said in a sequence documented by Awful Announcing.

For viewers familiar with Pittsburgh’s offense, the wrong first name was difficult to miss. Thebroadcast mistake drew criticism from fans, putting Warner’s player identification under scrutiny during the international showcase.

Jaylen Warren Gives Pittsburgh Plenty To Celebrate in Paris

There was a reason Warren kept coming up on the broadcast. He was central to Pittsburgh’s 16-10 victory, rushing for 101 yards on 18 carries and adding three receptions for 36 yards.

That gave him 137 yards from scrimmage and another productive afternoon in a stretch of strong performances. According to the Steelers’ recap, he cleared 100 scrimmage yards for the fourth time in five games.

Warren made his presence felt early, gaining 57 rushing yards in the first quarter. His 29-yard run on the opening possession helped Pittsburgh establish its ground game and move into scoring position.

The win lifted the Steelers to 5-2 and dropped New Orleans to 2-5. Pittsburgh left France with the result it wanted, while Warner had an apology to deliver after his booth mix-up.

His praise had been aimed at a player who earned it. Jaylen supplied the yards, the catches, and the work that helped Pittsburgh win. Next time, he would probably appreciate keeping the first name attached to them, too.
