Seahawks injury report: Rashid Shaheed, Leonard Williams are DNPs

The Seattle Seahawks opened their practice week Wednesday for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with a walkthrough after playing the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. They released their first injury report of the week, but the designations for players are an estimate.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said quarterback Sam Darnold won’t play because of a quadriceps injury suffered late in the game against the Bears. He also suffered a cracked rib on the team’s second offensive play of that game.

Complicating matters is that Drew Lock, who played against the Cardinals in Week 2 when Darnold was injured, has been limited in practice for the last two weeks because of an elbow injury and was the inactive emergency quarterback for those two games. Jalen Milroe was the backup.

Macdonald said, "It'll be week-to-week for Sam; he's not going to go on IR. The plan is for Drew to start, Jalen will be ready to back up. Drew's still working back from his elbow, so we'll work through that process this week, so we'll be getting both guys ready to play. We've got full confidence in those guys, and we have a plan in place and we'll go execute.

"In terms of Sam, he's tough as nails. I just asked him if I could share this, but he cracked his rib on the second play of the game. So he was playing the whole game without making a name of it and playing his tail off and competing. I think it's worth noting how tough this guy is. He'll be back sooner than later, I'm sure."

Back to Lock, Macdonald said, "He's able to throw. How much? We're working through that right now. He's going to throw the ball throughout the week, but we're just going to manage it. He's not going to take 8,000 throws."

The full details of their Wednesday injury report are below. Starters are noted with an asterisk.

Seahawks Wednesday injury report

  • *LT Charles Cross (ankle)

  • *QB Sam Darnold (quadriceps/ribs)

  • LB Connor O’Toole (foot)

  • NT Brandon Pili (back)

  • *WR/RS Rashid Shaheed (knee)

  • *DT Leonard Williams (stinger)

The Seahawks defense didn’t play as well as usual after Williams exited the game Monday and he has consistently been a game-wrecker against the Cardinals since being acquired in a trade from the Giants during the 2023 season.

With Cross out, former Cardinals offensive lineman Josh Jones started against the Bears.

  • G Anthony Bradford (knee)

  • RB/RS Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring)

  • QB Drew Lock (right elbow)

  • *LG Quenton Nelson (knee)

  • *LB Uchenna Nwosu (ankle)

Nelson was acquired in a trade last week from the Colts and had only three practices before playing the Bears. His arrival resulted in Grey Zabel switching from left guard to right guard. Zabel had started every game for the Seahawks on the left side since being selected in the second round of the 2025 draft.

  • *S Nick Emmanwori (shoulder)

  • WR/RS Tory Horton (hand)

  • LB Tyrice Knight (thigh)
