WWE could be planning bigger pushes for Mexican wrestlers. Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Penta’s recent success has reportedly helped change the company’s approach. His performances have caught the attention of WWE management.

Penta recently made headlines with a major championship match. Last month, he faced Roman Reigns in Mexico City which reportedly drew strong television ratings worldwide. The performance helped Penta gain trust from WWE management. He later captured the 2026 Men’s Money in the Bank briefcase. It marked the biggest win of his WWE career.

Dave Meltzer discusses WWE’s interest in mexican stars

During the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed WWE’s changing approach. Meltzer explained how Penta’s match with Reigns performed. He said, “PENTA showed. He drew, you know, him and Roman drew the second biggest rating of this entire year for, for RAW. And that’s a worldwide number, not a Mexico number, and that is big in the United States.”

Meltzer believes WWE now sees greater value in Mexican stars. “So having Mexican stars in higher positions and more is more valuable right now to WWE than it was two months ago. And they know it. You know, this is their business.”

He also discussed why both major wrestling companies could benefit.” It is very smart right now for both companies to have one or more Mexican stars in. In very high positions, at high enough positions to be drawing key people. But having them in key spots as top guys as at the championship level, that’ll make a difference if, if they’re, you know, as long as they have some charisma to them.” [H/T: ewrestlingnews]

With stars like Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix already competing in huge matches, it’ll be interesting to see how Penta’s recent success influences WWE’s future plans.
