After a slow start to its Ranji Trophy campaign, Karnataka will look to carry the momentum from a resounding innings win over Tripura into its clash against Assam at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara on Monday.

Karnataka is fourth in Elite Group B with nine points while Assam is one place behind with seven.

Shreyas Gopal, the third-highest wicket-taker last season who is fresh off a five-for against Tripura, will continue to lead the side in R. Smaran’s absence.

The batting has been a mixed bag. Veteran Karun Nair and the young core have been amongst the runs but more will be expected from Mayank Agarwal, who is yet to score a half-century this season.

The middle-order comprising K.V. Aneesh, wicketkeeper K.L. Shrijith, and Aneeshwar Gautam have looked assured at the crease.

Aneeshwar’s elegance was on full display against Tripura, while Aneesh has been used as a floater and adapted well.

The bowling attack has shuffled depending on the conditions on offer. Against Saurashtra on a true wicket, Karnataka fielded three pacers but switched to a three-proned spin attack on a slow surface against Tripura.

Shreyas, along with Shikhar Shetty and Rithesh Bhatkal have made up the spin attack. V. Vyshak has spearheaded the pace department, while Abhilash Shetty, Manvanth Kumar, and Vidwath Kaverappa have played the supporting act.

Manvanth has been especially impressive, having also showcased his batting ability with a scintillating hundred against Saurashtra.

Assam, on the other hand will relish returning to home conditions but will need to punch well above its weight to come away with a positive result.

As for the weather, there is no threat of rain on all four days of the match. However, the day’s play is set to begin at 8.30 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. due to early sunset.
