AFC Wimbledon will head on their travels for Saturday's League One encounter against Stockport County at Edgeley Park.

The visitors currently occupy 17th place in the League One table, while the promotion-chasing Hatters are sitting in second spot.

Match preview

Stockport are sitting two points adrift of leaders Huddersfield Town after winning seven, drawing two and losing four of their 13 league games.

However, the Hatters are just one point clear of the three teams below them, including their most recent opponents, third-placed Oxford United.

Mark Harris's first-half goal proved the difference as Stockport fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Kassam Stadium, bringing an end to their six-game unbeaten league run (W4, D2).

Stockport will now return to the familiar surroundings of Edgeley Park, where they have won each of their last three matches since losing 4-3 to Leicester City in the middle of September.

They will certainly fancy their chances of troubling the scorers, having netted in all eight of their competitive home games this season.

Jimmy McNulty's side also boast a 100% record in all six league matches in which they have opened the scoring.

Wimbledon, meanwhile, are currently enduring the second-longest winless run in League One after failing to win any of their last six matches in the third tier (D3, L3).

They at least managed to end a run of three consecutive defeats with a 1-1 draw in last Saturday's home clash against Wycombe Wanderers.

However, a much-changed Wimbledon side were unable to build upon that result in Tuesday's EFL Trophy clash against Arsenal Under-21s, falling to a 2-1 defeat that condemned the Dons to a group-stage exit.

Johnnie Jackson's side will now turn their focus back to league action, as they bid to claim their first win since recording back-to-back victories over Bromley and Doncaster in September.

Their hopes of a win will be tempered by the fact that they have lost each of their last four meetings with Stockport since falling to a 1-0 loss in January 2023.

The first goal will be crucial to their chances of picking up a positive result, considering they have lost all three league games in which they have conceded the opener this season.

Stockport remain without long-term absentee Brad Hills, who is working on his rehabilitation from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Defender Kyron Gordon is also unavailable for selection after missing the last four matches with a hamstring problem.

League One’s joint top scorer Kyle Wootton will be looking to add to his nine-goal tally when he leads the line against AFC Wimbledon.

As for the visitors, they are expected to be without Marcus Browne, Donnell McNeilly, Joe Kirby, Dujuan Richards, Delano McCoy-Splatt and Matty Stevens.

Dan Sweeney and Isaac Ogundere are the closest to returning to action, but it remains to be seen whether either of the pair will be ready for Saturday’s away trip.

Midfielder Alistair Smith is available for selection after missing the midweek EFL Trophy defeat through suspension.

Stockport County possible starting lineup:

Whatmuff; Jobe, O’Connell, Pye; Glover, Bate, Norwood, Osborn; Wood, Diamond; Wootton

AFC Wimbledon possible starting lineup:

Bursik; Tilley, Yiadom, Johnson, Seddon, Sasu; Smith, Harrison, Hippolyte; Stockley, Cornick

We say: Stockport County 2-0 AFC Wimbledon

With Wimbledon winless in six league games, we think they will struggle to lay a glove on a Stockport side that are chasing promotion and have won each of their previous three home matches.
