Blake Corum makes 'stay steady admission' as Rams turn inconsistent season around

INGLEWOOD, California - The path to success and stardom is never linear, especially in the world of professional sports.

For Blake Corum, it has been a journey of perseverance and determination as the Los Angeles Rams' running back, with the last three seasons showcasing his growth as a potential star in the NFL. Playing alongside star running back Kyren Williams, Corum has shown his ability in a big way in the 2026 season as the Rams look to turn their year around.

In the first two quarters of the game, both offenses struggled to get anything going, with the Rams holding a 10-9 lead in a sloppy first half for both teams. In the third quarter, however, the running game was unlocked, thanks in part to the Rams constantly feeding the 25-year-old the ball.

To the start of the second half, the Rams handed the ball to Corum in four straight possessions, before Matthew Stafford could not connect with the running back on a passing play. After two plays to star wide receiver Puka Nacua, the Rams once again fed Corum the ball, leading to a 23-yard rushing touchdown, which helped give them more breathing room.

"We came in here after halftime and said, 'Let's start fresh,'" Corum said after the win, referring to how the Rams needed a change in mindset after the previously mentioned slow start to the game.

"The first half didn't go as we wanted it to go, right? It wasn't good at all, didn't get many plays at all, a lot of three-and-outs. So [Rams head coach Sean McVay] challenged us and we were able to go out there, but that's a credit to the offensive line and everyone blocking and allowing me just to use my vision and go from there. It was great to see."

For Corum, his increased role this season has been a testament to his ability to keep working and pushing through, especially as he continues to carve a name in Los Angeles. Originally drafted in the third round, No. 83 overall, the running back enjoyed a relatively modest rookie season in 2024 as the Rams worked him into the equation.

In Week 18 against the Seattle Seahawks, he suffered a fractured forearm, ending his season with 207 rushing yards on 58 carries. The next year, Corum recorded 746 rushing yards on 145 carries with six touchdowns, showcasing how he can be an elite player given the opportunity.

Through eight games this season, the 25-year-old has accrued 389 rushing yards on 75 carries with three rushing touchdowns. Should he continue on this pace, Corum will exceed his previous highs across the board, provided he stays healthy and plays out the rest of the season.

Additionally, his touchdown against the Chargers marked the fourth straight game in which he has scored. That tied the longest streak of his career, having done so last season during Weeks 13 through 16.

Despite his personal accomplishment, Corum admitted that matching the streak for the second time in his young career reflects the growth he has shown over the last three years with the Rams as he continues to cement his place in the league. "To me, I just stay steady, man," he declared.

"I don't go into a game thinking about 'I'm going to score, I'm going to score.' It's more so just like 'What can I do to help the team win today' and just be the best version of myself. And that's what I just try to do every work day and every day I come out here and play."

With Corum's display, the Rams have won two straight to push themselves to 4-4 after a slow start to the season. The Rams are scheduled to play the Washington Commanders and Arizona Cardinals before their bye week, so it is entirely possible for Corum and the team to head into the break two games over .500.
