Covington retired from UFC competition after not getting a White House fight.
The former interim welterweight champion went public with his complaints, having been denied his desired spot on June’s UFC Freedom 250 card.
Since then, Covington’s focus has been on Real American Freestyle, as he returns to his roots in the wrestling realm.
But while ‘Chaos’ is thriving on the mats once again, that doesn’t mean he is ruling out another venture to the Octagon entirely.
Covington was badly beaten by Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa in December 2024, marking his fourth loss in six fights.
After a lengthy layoff, the Miami native planned to return in 2026. But after the UFC turned down his intention to make the walk on the White House lawn, Covington announced his retirement.
He’s since wrestled the likes of Arman Tsarukyan and Belal Muhammad under the RAF banner, where he seems likely to remain.
But if the UFC comes calling with a big matchup, ‘Chaos’ will consider it.
“Without a question, if it’s a big name and it’s a big fight that gets me up early in the morning, then I’m gonna do it,” Covington said during an interview with MMA Junkie.
“If I’m getting paid the big money, fighting the big fights, then I’m coming back. But just to come back and fight anybody, it does nothing for me.
“If there’s a big fight that adds to my legacy…then that’s what I’ll come back for,” he continued. “I don’t have a name on the top of my mind, but big names.
“They’re probably not gonna give me a guy like Conor (McGregor), but that would be great. (Nate) Diaz, some of these big names that are characters that have established themselves in the game for as long as I have.
“The door is never closed.”
There’s been no indication that the UFC higher-ups plan on offering Covington such a fight, especially after having nothing major lined up for him this June when the Octagon was in Washington, DC.
