Harry Kane has become the first Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen 25 years ago. He is only the fifth Englishman ever to win the prestigious award, joining Owen, Kevin Keegan, Bobby Charlton and Stanley Matthews.

Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario announced Kane as the winner at the London Palladium Theatre on Monday night. He beat Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal to the prize.

The 33-year-old scored 73 goals in 65 matches last season – 61 for Bayern Munich and 12 for England. Only Lionel Messi (82) has ever scored more goals in a season while playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Kane has received congratulations from millions of fans worldwide, who admire his rise from a loan spell at Leyton Orient to becoming a world-class superstar. Meanwhile, several past and present Chelsea stars have also applauded the former Tottenham striker.

How Morgan Rogers, Reece James and former Chelsea stars reacted to Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or win

Although England did not win the World Cup, losing to Argentina in the semi-final, Harry Kane’s impact at the tournament helped him win the Ballon d’Or. The captain contributed six goals and one assist in seven matches as the Three Lions finished third.

Many of his England teammates, including Chelsea stars Morgan Rogers and Reece James, have already reacted to his latest achievement. Rogers called Kane “the best ever” on Instagram, while James and Jordan Henderson reposted the announcement to their stories.

Former Chelsea stars Ben Chilwell and Trevor Chalobah responded to England’s social media post with emojis. Blues legend John Terry also commented “congratulations” on Kane’s Instagram post after the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Kane’s former Tottenham strike partner Heung-Min Son left one of the warmest messages. “Deserved more than anyone. Huge congratulations, my partner,” he wrote. Jude Bellingham, Luis Diaz and Mario Balotelli were among the many others to respond.
