No. 7 Texas Longhorns cruise to 50-point in basketball season opener

Texas Longhorns center scored 22 points and went 9-for-9 from the field as the No. 7 Texas Longhorns men's basketball team opened the 2026-2027 season with a 109-59 win over Chicago State on Monday night at Moody Center in Austin.

The 7-foot tall Lithuania also snagged six rebounds. Longhorns coach Sean Miller also got big contributions from point guard Isaiah Johnson, who had 18 points, and freshman Joe Sterling, who had four three pointers and 14 points.

Highly-touted Longhorns freshman Marcus Spears Jr. had 11 points, five rebounds and four blocks. Fellow freshman guards Austin Goosby and Bo Ogden each started their careers with a three-pointer.

Texas was without Mikey Lewis, a transfer guard from Saint Mary's, who averaged 14 points a game last season. Lewis is expected to return from foot surgery around Christmas.

Chicago State was led by Will Lovings-Watts with 13 points and Mike Price with 12. Texas hosts Gardner-Webb on Thursday night.
