Sheffield Wednesday made light work of AFC Wimbledon at Hillsborough, winning 5-0. Several players impressed, but it was loanee Davis Keillor-Dunn who was the standout player for the Owls.
Wimbledon were expected to provide a real test for Henrik Pedersen’s side, who were looking to end a run of three straight draws. But despite the pre-game expectation, the Owls looked impressive, and things seemed to click on the field.
In particular, Wrexham loanee Keillor-Dunn impressed for Sheffield Wednesday. He played behind Jamal Lowe with Harry Gray and Callum Slattery either side of him, and looked a threat in front of goal and creatively.
It’s fair to say DKD hasn’t set the world alight since joining the club on loan. A lot was expected from him given his spell in League One with Barnsley and even his time in League Two with Mansfield Town. However, as he has been building his match fitness, we haven’t always seen the best of him — that changed against the Dons.
He had a good chance early on. Slattery nicked the ball around halfway, pushed off his man and slid in Keillor-Dunn. The Welshman sent the defender one and then another, before making space for a shot from a tight angle. The keeper saved that early effort, but it was a sign of things to come.
Just before the 40th minute mark, Wednesday and DKD really came to life. Barry Bannan picked up the ball, Keillor-Dunn moved smartly into space and received the ball just in the corner of the box. Bannan carried on his run, was found by the number 50 and scored Wednesday’s first.
A minute or so later, Keillor-Dunn pressed at just the right time to punish a mistake by the defender. He still had a lot to do after running from a clean through from the halfway line, but finished well.
His second goal came in the 85th minute. The forward was found by Kieran Morrison and DKD calmly picked out the far bottom corner.
His performance against the Dons received a 10/10 rating from Sofascore, as well as the Player of the Match award. When you have a closer look at his numbers from the game, it’s easy to see why he picked up a perfect 10 rating.
The 29-year-old had the most shots yesterday for the Owls with seven, two in front of Gray with five. DKD also had the most shots on target (four), again beating Gray who had two.
Creatively, he was the most threatening for Wednesday as well. He created four big chances, which was the joint most alongside Slattery. While also recording a pass accuracy of 92% (35/38).
DKD wasn’t afraid to carry the ball either. He made 17 carries in total, four of which were progressive carries totalling 73.1m. His longest progressive carry of the game was 39m.
Speaking to the club’s website after the game, DKD shared his thoughts on their impressive 5-0 win:
“I thought we were really good throughout the game.
“I think there was a spell of maybe 15 minutes when they came at us and caused us a few problems, but all in all, I thought it was a great performance.
“Some outstanding performances individually, and hopefully we can build on that.”
