Norris on edge: major decision on new team coming soon
Lando Norris Baku, Racepictures

Lando Norris is about to find out whether he can join the Formula 2 grid with his own team, GPblog understands. F2 CEO Bruno Michel is certainly thrilled by the idea of the 2025 F1 world champion entering the feeder series to Formula 1 with his own racing team.

Formula 1 champion Norris announced the launch of his own racing team, LN4 Fusion, in early September. The Briton wants to support young talents on their journey to Formula 1, while also building a team capable of competing for titles in the feeder series. LN4 Fusion is headed by team principal René Rosin, who spent many years at the helm of successful outfit Prema Racing. Former Prema executive Guillaume Capietto is also involved in the project.

From 2027, LN4 Fusion will compete in Formula 3, the Italian Formula 4 Championship and the Formula Regional European Championship. To secure its place in F3, the team has acquired assets and the entry rights of AIX Racing. LN4 Fusion is also working on a possible entry into British Formula 4.

However, the team’s ambitions go further. Norris also wants to join the Formula 2 grid next year. The new team has applied to in the 2027-2029 seasons, but is still awaiting approval. GPblog understands that the signs are positive for Norris.

Answering this website's question, Michel confirmed during a media briefing that Norris’ team is being considered for a place on next season’s grid. "We are finalising the selection process for the Formula 2 teams for the next three years. We will very soon announce which teams have been accepted," said the Frenchman.

Formula 2 calls Norris’ involvement ‘fantastic’

Michel is delighted that Norris wants to get involved in helping youngsters in feeder series. "Lando is already entering Formula 3, by buying the assets of AIX. For us, it's very positive to have someone like Lando coming back to the system. I’m grateful to drivers who want to give something back after achieving something in their own careers.

"I think that’s something really special about Lando, and I believe he’s enjoying it very much. He wants to work with young drivers and help them, just as he was helped in the past. That’s fantastic for us."

Norris will not be able to be with his team all the time because of his commitments with McLaren, but Michel does not expect that to be a problem. "I’m sure he’ll have a good approach to running the team, even if he won’t be there every day. After all, he has another job. But this is all very positive," Michel concluded.
