Shamar Springer has been added to West Indies' squad for the two-Test series in Bangladesh, replacing Keemo Paul, who is returning home for personal and family reasons, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced.
Springer, the 28-year-old seam-bowling allrounder is yet to make his Test debut, having represented West Indies in three ODIs and 12 T20Is. He has 1043 runs at an average of 32.59 and 58 wickets at 27.87 from 23 first-class matches. He had a productive campaign with the bat in the 2026 West Indies Championship, scoring 251 runs in four matches for Barbados at an average of 50.20. His returns with the ball were more modest, with seven wickets at 42.00 across eight innings.
Paul's departure adds to West Indies' absences ahead of the Bangladesh series. White-ball captain Shai Hope has been rested, while fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was withdrawn from the squad as part of workload management. Paul had initially been brought into the squad as Joseph's replacement.
Springer and Paul were both part of West Indies' recent white-ball tour of India, which ended on Saturday (October 17) after the fifth T20I in Bengaluru was abandoned due to rain. West Indies lost the ODI series 2-1 before drawing the T20I series 2-2.
The Test squad will begin its Bangladesh assignment with a three-day warm-up match in Dhaka from October 22 to 24. The opening Test will be played at Mirpur from October 28 to November 1, followed by the second Test in Sylhet from November 5 to 9.
