The Super Sunday match failed to live up to its billing this week with Sunderland and Leeds United playing out a dire goalless draw at the Stadium of Light.

The result means the Black Cats remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League table, with the stalemate perhaps not surprising as it was the Whites' fifth in eight matches so far this season.

There were actually eight shots on target in the match, although neither side managed to reach an expected goals total of one during the contest, showing the quality of the shots that were on display.

In a match of very little quality, there was not too much to really talk about or get supporters off their seats. There was one incident that referee Stuart Attwell had to make a big call on though.

Midway through the second half, Sunderland defender Reinildo went up for a header and was challenged by Leeds midfielder Jayden Bogle. Unfortunately, Bogle went in with his foot instead and caught the Black Cats man in the midriff.

Bogle only had eyes for the ball and immediately held his hands up to apologise, checking on Reinildo on the floor, with Attwell choosing to brandish a yellow card, rather than a red for a reckless high challenge.

And former Premier League referee Graham Barber thinks that was the right call.

Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, he said: "I think you have to take these things in the context of the game and clearly the player knew he made a mistake. I don't think it was intentionally violent or anything like that, and, to be perfectly honest, we have to make challenges in the game of football these days. Sometimes players don't always get them right, I think what we want to do is we want to avoid the cynicism, we want to avoid a cynical tackle that is clearly, you know, perhaps meant to hurt someone, and in this particular case, I think it was an honest challenge and I think everybody got it right on the day.

"The other thing about it is when you look at players' reactions afterwards. When you're out there as a referee, if you're not out there and you don't have a feel for the game then you've got a problem, because you have to have a feel for the game.

"A yellow card in one game is not always a yellow card in another game, because you haven't got a feel for the game, and I think that's very, very important for people to understand. I know we want consistency, but games of football are very, very different and I think the decision was right."
