Vulcan FC named first FA Positivity Champions in football

Vulcan FC received the title through the FA’s new Positivity Champions initiative, which aims to recognise clubs, players, and communities that set a strong example in grassroots football.

The club, which dates back to the 1950s, earned the honour after its first team achieved perfect FA Respect marks in all 32 games last season.

It was also recognised for its community spirit, inclusive approach, and efforts to make football a positive experience for players, families, volunteers, and visiting teams.

To mark the occasion, the Community Shield was brought to the club’s grounds.

Tim Foster, head of operations at the FA, said: "Congratulations to everyone at Vulcan Football Club on being recognised as our first-ever FA Positivity Champion.

"This reward celebrates clubs that create positive environments, highlighting the vital role they play in making grassroots football enjoyable for everyone."

Vulcan FC chairperson Adam Prescott said the club’s culture is built on respect.

He said: "Respect is an unconscious thing that we do. It's a standard across every volunteer that we have. We wouldn't be where we are now, without them."

Around a decade ago, Vulcan FC lost access to its facilities.

The club was reduced to just its first team and reserves and had to play on local parks.

However, members rallied together to rebuild the club and secure a stronger future for football in the area.

Since relocating to its current site at Vulcan Sports Club, Raleigh Close, Newton, and uniting all teams under one banner, Vulcan FC have grown to more than 30 teams.

Its programmes now include walking football and sessions for people with special educational needs.
