FOOTBALL - Coventry United slide down table after Basford United defeat

COVENTRY United conceded three goals at home for the third game in a row following a 3-1 defeat against Basford United in midweek.

United led through Charlie Faulkner’s goal on 25 minutes as the home side looked to return to winning ways at the Nick Newbold Stadium.

However, Brad Wilson drew the visitors level on 38 minutes to send the teams in all square at the break.

And a late brace from Tristan Thompson-Matthews, who scored twice in the final seven minutes, saw Coventry slip to a third successive home defeat.

The result means Coventry sit 17th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, just three points above the relegation zone.

United remain the only side in the NPL Midlands yet to win a home game in the league this season.

Coventry are next in action against St Ives Town on Saturday, October 24 with kick-off at 3pm at Westwood Road.
