Controversial Chiefs star hands Andy Reid unexpected problem after SNF disaster
The Seahawks bounced back from successive losses to defeat the previously unbeaten Chiefs

Harrison Butker missed two crucial field goals as the Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football.

With Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth on the call, the Chiefs fell 13-3 to the Seahawks. Points were at a premium at Lumen Field, and Butker’s misses proved to be critical as the defending Super Bowl champion rolled to a comfortable win.

Butker, whose outspoken nature off the field has made him a controversial figure, has long been considered one of the best and most reliable kickers in the NFL. Back in 2024, Butker became the highest-paid kicker in the league when he agreed to terms on a new four-year deal with the Chiefs.

Through the Chiefs’ Super Bowl years, Butker was an ever-present presence who was at his best in clutch situations on the biggest stage. But he has lost form in 2026 and entered the clash with the Seahawks ranked 28th in the NFL from 50 yards or more, while he also missed an extra point.

Butker’s struggles scorned the Chiefs in Seattle. After Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s exceptional touchdown, the Seahawks were driving to extend their advantage late in the second quarter when Nohl Williams picked off Sam Darnold in the end zone and returned the ball to midfield, where he was tackled with a single second remaining.

Up stepped Butker to make the score 10-3 heading into halftime, only for the 31-year-old to not have the leg power to get his kick through the posts. His attempt fell short, which is surprising given his franchise-record mark for the Chiefs is 62 yards.

The miss meant Butker fell to 1-of-5 from 50-plus on the season - a paltry 20 percent. In a game of inches, the Chiefs are fighting an impossibly uphill battle.

Regardless, after Jason Myers kicked a 35-yard field goal to give the Seahawks a 13-0 lead, Butker dusted himself off and converted a 50-yard attempt to put the Chiefs on the board. But as the Chiefs battled to stay competitive, Butker undid their hopes of staying unbeaten in the fourth quarter.

After yet another Chiefs offensive drive stalled out, head coach Andy Reid called Butker’s number to draw the AFC West franchise within a score. Butker had a perfect record from 40-49 yards in 2026, but his 45-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left.

Butker’s misses were ultimately punished by the Seahawks, as Emanuel Wilson broke away for a 21-yard touchdown to ice the game. Seattle forced a turnover on downs as the Kansas City offense fell short once again, securing the dominant victory on home turf.

The Seahawks' defense came to play against their Super Bowl MVP, Kenneth Walker. The running back was held to a season-low 36 yards, averaging 2.6 yards per carry on a night to forget.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs did not reach the red zone for the first time in Patrick Mahomes’ career. Mahomes threw for 165 yards and an interception, ensuring the Minnesota Vikings remain the last unbeaten team standing entering Week 8.

The 5-1 Chiefs can return to winning ways - and Butker can try to resurrect his form - against the 5-2 Denver Broncos at Mile High on Sunday, Nov. 1. Fresh off their win, the 4-3 Seahawks return to action on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears at home a day later.
