Joe Weatherley extends Hampshire contract to 2028 season

Born in Winchester and a product of Hampshire’s pathway, the batter has played more than 200 matches for the club across all formats and is the third-highest T20 run-scorer in the team’s history, with 2,741 runs.

Weatherley said: "I’m really pleased to extend my contract with Hampshire.

"This club has been my home for 20 years and over 10 years professionally, and I love playing my cricket and being part of the dressing room here at Utilita Bowl.

"We’ve got a great group of players, and I’m motivated to contribute across formats and continue our success, particularly in white ball cricket, where we’ve been in knockouts and finals regularly, and bring some trophies home."

The 2026 season was a standout for Weatherley, who finished as the leading run-scorer in the men’s Vitality Blast with 591 runs at an average just under 50.

He was instrumental at this year’s Vitality Blast Finals Day, scoring an unbeaten 88 in the semi-final against Notts Outlaws and 75 in the final, becoming the first man to hit two fifties on a single Finals Day.

His performances also made him the highest individual scorer on a Finals Day, and he has now amassed 330 runs in six innings at an average of 82.50.

Weatherley debuted for Hampshire in April 2016 and has since featured in 110 T20 matches.

He scored a half-century on his first-class debut and recorded his maiden professional century in the Royal London Cup, hitting an unbeaten 105 against Kent during the club’s title-winning campaign.

He has won two trophies with Hampshire, including the 2018 Royal London Cup and the 2022 Vitality Blast.

Across his career, he has scored 6,163 runs, including 31 fifties and five hundreds.

Giles White, director of cricket at Hampshire, said: "Joe has become an integral member of the squad and a match winner in white ball cricket.

"His Blast record this year was exceptional, topped by two half-centuries at Finals Day.

"We are delighted that he has committed his future to the club for a further two years."

Hampshire’s 2027 memberships are now available, starting at £230 for access to all men’s and women’s home matches in the County Championship and One Day Cup.
