Iraola on reacting to defeats, Barcola as a striker and Gravenberch injury

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park (kick-off 14:00 GMT).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

  • Liverpool travel to Crystal Palace on the back of defeats at home to Arsenal in the Premier League and Fenerbahce in the Champions League, and Iraola said it was key to react well to those losses: "I think that is the challenge, especially in a club like Liverpool. One week ago in this news conference [the talk was] we were on a run, everything was in a good place and we were in a better mood. Now, after two defeats it changes and it has to be like this in clubs like ours."

  • On whether France international Bradley Barcola would be used more as a central striker, like he was in the midweek defeat to Fenerbahce: "No, Bradley is a winger. Mostly he has played as a left winger and sometimes as a right winger, but also has played for PSG as a striker, which is something I wanted to try. But he is a winger and he will be mostly - 90% of the time - be used as a winger."

  • On Rio Ngumoha's England call-up: "It's very good news for him and very good news for us. He is always a threat when we can put him in good positions to go against opponents. He is growing and helping us a lot."

  • On whether Sweden striker Alexander Isak is reaching his best for Liverpool after scoring six goals in the eight Premier League games he has played this season: "Alex is a top goalscorer. If we can put him more in the position to score he will deliver, that is not a guarantee but is the closest thing to a guarantee."

  • Iraola added: "Like every player, he [Isak] can add more things to his game but we want to use [more] the things that he has. We are trying to use Isak in the best way."

  • On team news: "The only doubt we will have is Ryan [Gravenberch]. The others will be the same as we have been. The Ryan Gravenberch thing is a day-to-day thing, it's a matter of pain. Let's see if he can deal with the pain and he can help us."

  • On opponents Palace, who are 18th in the Premier League and struggling under new manager Pierre Sage, though they rescued a 1-1 draw at home to Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday: "Even if they changed the manager there is a continuity in terms of more or less the system is the same, the players are familiarised with the things they are trying to do. I was obviously watching the game yesterday. They fought until the end. Even with 10 players they managed to get the result in the last seconds of the game."
