India wins top two medals in the men’s discus throw F51/F52/F53 event at the Asian Para Games 2026, where Pranav Soorma set a new Area record to clinch the gold medal.
The F51 to F57 classification goes to the athletes who compete in a seated position and who have lower body impairments, limb deficiencies, impaired muscle power, impaired range of movement, or leg length differences. In the case of an insufficient number of competitors in a specific classification event, the similar classifications can be clubbed, as we saw with F51 to F53 athletes in this particular men’s discus throw final event.
In the case of multiple classifications clubbing, instead of the best-scoring performance, the highest successful throw in the case of the discus throw, RAZA points determined the winner.
With his 11.66m throw in his fourth attempt, the F51 athlete Pranav Soorma earned the RAZA points of 932 that secured India’s gold medal in the event. He set a new Asian record in the F51 record book. Ram Ratan Singh, another F51 Indian athlete, claimed the silver medal with 809 RAZA points after managing a successful throw of 10.35 meters.
Although the bronze medalist Alireza Mokhtari from Iran had the best throw of 20.20m, the F53 category athlete secured the RAZA points of 749. Fourth-placed Makhambet Serikkaliyev from Kazakhstan (18.12m) and sixth-placed Mohammed Almoalem from Bahrain (8.64m) produced their respective personal best performances in the final.
Pranav Soorma secured his second Asian Para Games gold medal, while he won the club throw F51 in the 2022 edition. In the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Pranav claimed the silver medal in the club throw F51 event.
