Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel dies aged 30 after on-field collision

Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel has died at the age of 30 following an on-field collision during a Spanish La Liga 2 match, his club confirmed.

De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono as both players raced for a loose ball in the last minutes of extra time on Monday, Nov. 2. Owono jumped toward the ball near midfield and collided with De Miguel.

Owono was shown a red card for using excessive force while the ball was in play. Owono immediately rushed back onto the pitch to help, joined by concerned players from both teams. The match was abandoned due to the serious nature of the incident.

De Miguel was immediately transported to the hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. According to The Guardian, Miguel was unable to breathe unassisted and remained unconscious in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, his neurological condition deteriorated, and he passed away.

"Broken with pain, with a lump in our throat and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we announce the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.,” CD Tenerife said in a statement.

"There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can ease this profound sense of sadness. We stand with his devastated family, with his loved ones, and with the entire Tenerife football community, who today mourn this cruel turn of events.

"The family of Jesús de Miguel would like to thank everyone for their expressions of support and, from the bottom of their hearts, ask that their privacy be respected at this terrible time."

In response to the news, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) suspended all soccer-related activities scheduled for Tuesday, including the postponement of two Copa del Rey matches.

“Following the confirmation of the death of Jesús de Miguel, a player for CD Tenerife, and as a mark of respect and solidarity, the Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] announces the postponement of the matches scheduled for Tuesday, 3 November, corresponding to the first and third rounds of the Copa del Rey and the Copa de la Reina, respectively," the RFEF said in a statement.

La Liga president Javier Tebas said: "I am deeply saddened by the death of Jesús de Miguel Alameda, a player for CD Tenerife. Today, we all share the terrible pain of an irreparable loss.

"My deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, teammates and the whole club. All my love and support during this very difficult time. May he rest in peace."
