Maresca is not ‘going to change plan’ after PSG loss
Maresca is not ‘going to change plan’ after PSG loss

Enzo Maresca highlighted his belief in his approach as Manchester City prepare for Europe again.

‘The response after PSG was quite good’

The manager has overseen a record-breaking run of seven straight Premier League wins during his opening weeks as the leader of the Citizens.

However, a 4-2 defeat against reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday was a reality check for a group on a high.

He hopes that the team bounce back in continental competition with a win against AEK Athens.

"I don't think one game is going to change our plan or our idea in terms of what we want to do.

"The target is always to try and win games. For sure, after the defeat against PSG, we need to win games and that is why I said that tomorrow is an important game."

"[We need the] same response that we had in the last game against Ipswich. The game is gone, it's a new game, new plan, a new team we need to face, so we need a different solution. I think the response after the PSG game was quite good.

"It is a Champions League game, different competition but the ambition has to be the same, try to win games and again, I had one year experience [in Greece]. As I said a few conferences ago, [managing in Greece] is nice because it is very warm, every game, at home, away, but it was a good experience."

‘I don't remember any clear chances’

Critics have felt that the openness of the Citizens against lower level Premier League opposition indicates fragilities in the team, but Maresca maintained his faith in the side’s stability as a unit.

"I like to analyse game by game. I think they are all different. I said many times that there are things that we need to improve, probably because at home with Coventry City, Ipswich Town, Sunderland, they are all kind of teams that try to make the game for you difficult in terms of transitions and set pieces and it is something that we need to improve.

"If you analyse the last game against Ipswich, how many chances did we concede? Not many, how many goals? [Other than] the penalty and the goal - I don't remember any clear chances.

"At least you are going to think that you are going to concede something because there is another team that is looking for a chance."
