Chennai Super Kings have made some changes to their coaching staff ahead of IPL 2027. Former South Africa all-rounder Albie Morkel and former England spinner Gareth Batty have been roped in as assistant coaches for the franchise while former India pacer Mohit Sharma has been appointed as the bowling coach.
They will play under new head coach Zaheer Khan who has replaced Stephen Fleming after he quit the role to become England’s Test head coach. Along with Fleming, who was at CSK for 19 years, the franchise has also watched several experienced members of its coaching and support staff move on.
Albie Morkel played for the franchise between 2008 and 2013. He played 78 games for CSK, scoring 827 runs and grabbing 76 wickets. He has been with Joburg Super Kings since the inception of the SA20 and was recently appointed as their head coach.
Mohit Sharma also has a good association with CSK. He played 48 games for the franchise from 2013 to 2019 and took 58 wickets. He then featured for several other IPL franchises before retiring from all formats of the game in December 2025.
Gareth Batty joined Surrey in 2021 and was part of their three consecutive County Championship title victories. He has also featured for the Oval Invincibles in the men’s Hundred and MI London.
Mike Hussey, Eric Simons, Greg King, and Tommy Simsek are no longer part of the CSK setup. Sridharan Sriram will remain as assistant coach while James Foster will also continue as fielding coach and AR Srikanth will continue with the franchise as well.
