Chris Sutton stance on Celtic boycott by the Green sparks uproar as McInnes lambasted over Rangers subs – Hotline

Anthony Evans took your calls after the Celts hero said the ultras were well within their rights to announce a boycott

Chris Sutton

Chris Sutton has backed the Green Brigade's decision to boycott Celtic's home fixtures in Europe and the cup in protest at how the club is being run.

But ahead of Thursday's Europa League showdown with Celta Vigo, regular Hotline caller Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, reckons the Record Sport columnist and Hoops legend's remarks won't go down too well with his former boss Martin O'Neill. He said: "I was hugely disappointed with Chris Sutton's astonishing comments of backing the green brigade boycott for the home euro ties. This is coming from someone who himself witnessed what a passionate home support can do for Celtic when being part of our run to Seville (in 2003). I’m sure he’s now ensured he’s off Martin O’Neill's Christmas card list and and the vast majority of true Celtic supporters like myself with such a negative attitude."

Hoops got back to winning ways in devastating style with a 7-1 annihilation of Hearts last weekend but William Simpson still has his concerns. He called in to say: With all congrats to Celtic on their easy win against Hearts, they could have won without a goalie. As i've been saying for the last few years, the problem is in defence. Hopefully they can go out and win against Celta Vigo but i wouldn't hold my breath. The defence are still like rabbits in headlights as soon as the opposition gets over the centre circle. I hope they prove me wrong."

Big money signing Kasper Hogh has now failed to net in his last 10 Celtic appearances. Willie Mercer, Dumfries, emailed in to say: "Have any Celtic fans considered that Hogh's form and lack of goals might be simply down to the fact that he left a better team in Bodo/Glint on to join them? A team that has consistently performed in the Champions League, holding their own with some of the so called giants of European football. A team that played in such a manner as to allow him to be the prolific scorer, he was for them."

Hearts punter Robert Burns (no not that one) has also hit back at his side's disastrous showing at Parkhead. He said: "I see the local worthies on this column are berating me for my team’s unfortunate result against Celtic. However, I remember back in the day a certain Celtic goalkeeper having a nightmare whilst playing for Scotland. So much so, that when asking at the time, the answer was: 'Almost 10 past Haffey.'"

On the other side of the Glasgow divide, Rangers diehard Alan Flett is sick of hearing complaints from their noisy neighbours, stating: Will entitled FC fans please make their minds up? You've been pumped twice by Rangers, you've been pumped by every side you've faced in Europe, and all we've heard is, sack the board, sack MON, sack the great (Callum) McGregor! But a freak win v Hearts, and it would appear that everything is rosy once again. Come Friday morning it'll be doom and gloom again! Comedy gold!"

Rangers were denied an eighth straight victory by Dundee last Saturday and Martin Roberts has called Derek McInnes' choice of substitutions into question, writing: "I have came round to McInnes and thought he had found a settled 11.

"So why change it at Dundee? Yes (Badredine) Bouanani was good but his subs were mad. To take him and Minsu Kim off was crazy as they were our best players. (Dan) Neil had a mare and (Djeidi) Gassama was a non event. They would have been my two choices to come off."
