Celtic and Hearts supporters were embroiled in a violent mass brawl outside Parkhead prior to Sunday's (October 18)league match. Metal barriers were brandished as weapons and fists flew as chaos erupted on Celtic Way, with a group of Hearts fans making their way along London Road before the game kicked off.
In disturbing footage widely circulated online, a woman can be heard screaming as multiple fights break out between the rival factions. Crowd control metal gates were seen being flung about amidst the disorder.
Fists were flying as the fans engaged in running battles on a grassy area, while regular bystanders watched in shock, reports the Daily Record.
The video concludes as the Hearts fans retreat towards the away end of the stadium, but glass bottles continued to be lobbed by both sets of supporters.
Meanwhile, Hearts-supporting broadcaster Martin Geissler took to social media to criticise fellow fans for their "grim" songbook at Celtic Park.
He said: "Some grim songs coming out of the Hearts support today. I was there, it was excruciating and humiliating. A small, small section of our support as a whole but vocal and well represented today. Proud to support the club I've always loved but get that stuff out. It's awful."
Tensions had been simmering ahead of the match following last season's title decider at Celtic Park between the two sides, which ended in a controversial pitch invasion.
However, Martin O'Neill's side emerged as comfortable victors on the day, securing a 7-1 win.
Goals from Kieran Tierney and Benjamin Nygren put Celtic 2-0 up within the first ten minutes, a lead from which Hearts never recovered.
A double from Callum Osmand extended the Hoops' lead to four before Laurent Mendy managed to pull one back. However, just before half time, Mika Baur darted into the Hearts box and his shot was deflected into the net by Jamie McCart, sending Celtic into the break with a commanding 5-1 lead.
Second half goals from Camilo Duran and Nygren sealed the victory for Celtic.
