Jake Paul has asked the UFC to release a superstar after Shakur Stevenson parted ways with Zuffa Boxing without having a fight with Dana White's promotion.
When UFC boss White entered the world of boxing, he secured the signing of several big-name boxers, including pound-for-pound star Stevenson.
But on Monday, Stevenson announced his departure from Zuffa Boxing barely 100 days after he was unveiled as a marquee signing.
The New Jersey native claims he formally requested his release, which was granted this past weekend.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: "I’ve been working my ass off. Staying focused, staying in shape. I’ve been in camp for, like, eight weeks preparing for fights that I was told was going to happen and it has not happened but look, it is what it is. This is the business of boxing. I’m not mad at anyone, I’m not pointing no fingers, but upon all of these issues and things that’s been going on, I requested to be released from Zuffa Boxing.
"Now, over the weekend, my request has been granted and I am officially a free agent. This time, I want to tell the fans and tell everybody that’s in the public that I am now taking my career in my own hands and I’m starting my own promotional company and I’m willing to work with other promoters and anybody else that’s out there that’s willing to be serious about my career as I am about my career."
Paul quickly weighed in on Stevenson's departure from Zuffa Boxing by bringing up White's MMA promotion.
After hearing about the 29-year-old boxing superstar requesting his release, Paul questioned whether Jon Jones could do the same, so he and his team can make the Francis Ngannou super-fight.
Tagging both Jones and Ngannou on X, he wrote: "Can Jon Jones request a release like Shakur Stevenson so we can go ahead and do this Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones fight? They already said they are never working with Francis. So let Jon fly and we can give the fans what they want. Please and thank you."
Jones retired from MMA after his UFC heavyweight title defence over Stipe Miocic in 2024. He was in talks with the UFC over an undisputed clash against Tom Aspinall, who was the interim champion at the time of discussions, but a showdown with the Brit never materialised.
'Bones' was also rumoured to make a UFC comeback on the White House card in June until the promotion went with Ilia Topuria vs Justin Gaethje as the headliner.
As for Ngannou, he's a free agent after leaving PFL. He returned to MMA action in May when he destroyed Philipe Lins on the Ronda Rousey vs Gina Carano Netflix card. 'The Predator' left the UFC in 2023 after failing to reach an agreement on a new deal.
Jones appears to be on board with Paul's request to the UFC.
He saw Paul's post about him and reposted it to his 2.9 million followers on X.
Jones vs Ngannou was a failed fight in the UFC as White was unable to match them against each other inside the famed Octagon.
But there is clearly still an appetite for the blockbuster heavyweight bout, given 'The Problem Child' is eager to make it under his MVP banner.
In 2027, Paul is once again entering the MMA world, with MVP's merger with PFL to officially begin.
